Removing cement haze after tiling: a step-by-step guide

That dull, grey film on new tiles is cement haze. Here is how professionals remove it safely โ€” and which surfaces need a different approach.

After grouting, a thin film of cement often stays behind on the tile surface. It dulls the colour and makes the floor look dirty, no matter how often it is mopped. The good news: with the right product it disappears in minutes.

When to clean

Wait until the grout has cured โ€” usually 7 to 10 days. Cleaning too early can wash cement out of the joints.

Step by step

  1. Pre-wet the floor and the joints with clean water.
  2. Dilute CementOff 1:5 for heavy haze or 1:10 for a light film.
  3. Apply, leave for 5 minutes and scrub with a white pad.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and remove the residue.

Not on marble

Acid-based cleaners etch marble, limestone and travertine. For those stones, ask our specialists for a neutral alternative.
